The Toonami Trending Rundown for March 29-30, 2014. Unfortunately for us this week, Twitter had some technical problems on this night partly thanks to the buzz of the Elite 8 and the Kids Choice Awards among other events, meaning that we weren’t able to gauge this week’s social media buzz. In terms of shows, only the 2nd half save for Star Wars TCW managed to reach the US trends list in addition to Space Dandy in the mobile app during it’s east coast airing as well as US during it’s west coast airing.
Interestingly enough, instead of shows trending during the first half, Dandy, Shippuden, One Piece, and Blue Exorcist managed to conjure up some character/in-show content trends in the US instead with Dream Island (where QT’s love interest Maker is sent to to be dumped, and the dumped robots start a rebellion forcing QT to stop it), Itachi (as he begins his duel with Naruto and Team Kakashi), Usopp (as he desperately tries possibly in vein to repair the Merry despite Franky’s calls to give it up), and Rin (as he meets and has a feud with their personal chef, Ukobach).
I should note that the last time something like this happened was during Dandy and Shippuden’s 2nd on the air, and back then I also mentioned that this also happened during SAO’s 2nd night on the air as well. And tonight just so happens to be Black Lagoon’s 2nd night on the air. Apparently there’s a curse going on that is plaguing premiere shows from trending on their 2nd night on the air, which only Blue Exorcist has managed to avoid so far. Let’s hope that this trend can be broken and things will be back to normal next week.
As the wait begins for Season 2 in July, Toonami in the meantime will be rerunning Space Dandy in the interm, so for those that missed out on Round 1, now’s your chance. Till next week, have a happy April Fools and Toonami revival day and stay gold.
