“Ok.”

–         Saitama, One Punch Man (Ep. 11)

The Toonami Trending Rundown for October 1-2, 2016. We kick off Hunter x Hunter’s Zoldyck Family story arc and send off Parasyte with a bang as every show save for DBZ Kai successfully trended during their respective East Coast airing. No character or in-show content trends to report this week, though considering that the SNL season premiere was happening at the same time and some people were likely thrown off by the time change of Toonami starting back at midnight (due to Adult Swim giving the 8pm hour to regular CN programs for the holiday season) things ain’t so bad.

This week’s feature was a promo for the upcoming debut of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, which is set to air just 2 weeks away at 12:30am ET. You can check it out here.

In Sword Art Online news, Aniplex on Sunday also revealed some new details regarding the upcoming Ordinal Scale film including a new trailer, which you can see below. A release date for Japan and select theaters worldwide is set for February 18, 2017.

Those that are watching the subbed version might know that on Sunday, the season 2 premiere of Iron Blooded Orphans aired in Japan. With 9 episodes remaining in Season 1’s run on Toonami, it will be one to look forward to once the dub is ready in the months ahead. Indeed, Sunrise did visit Adult Swim’s studios back on Friday and there is speculation that they had discussions regarding future Sunrise shows for the better cartoon show, IBO season 2 among them. But of course, as with all Toonami shows, if you do want to see Season 2, keep watching the block as always and feel free to let the Toonami crew know.

And on that same note, due to the Halloween festivities for the week of October 29, Toonami will be taking a night off then from regular festivities to showcase a Gundam IBO marathon. The episodes that they will show are yet to be determined.

As Parasyte’s encore run has come to an end and without a new Toonami-caliber show at this present time, we unfortunately have to say goodbye to Sentai Filmworks’ presence on Toonami for now. Since Sentai first joined the block in mid-2015, both of their contributions to the block, Akame ga Kill! and Parasyte, have done very well in terms of both ratings and social media buzz.

Unfortunately, outside of rerunning those shows, there’s not much in the Sentai library that is Toonami caliber at this current time. While many of their acquisitions are all good shows in their own right, most aren’t action shows, and with Toonami being an action cartoon block, that’s the main factor among other things that makes or breaks a popular or acclaimed anime from getting on Toonami’s radar. Not to mention, Sentai isn’t exactly known for picking up the heavy hitters in such a large frequency like Funimation, Viz, and Aniplex do, that would be heavily requested for the block much less get the ratings. While some have touted Toonami getting shows like Angel Beats, Big O season 1, Chivalry of a Failed Knight, GATE, Log Horizon, Ushio and Tora, and even Food Wars, for some reason or another those shows just couldn’t make it on the block at least at this current time, and so here we are as Sentai for now joins Aniplex shows and movies “on the sidelines” so to speak, possibly to return who knows when.

Of course, before 2015, there was doubts amongst the community on whether Sentai Filmworks would ever partner up with Toonami to showcase their acquisitions on the better cartoon show, citing Toonami’s lack of a relationship with predecessor ADV Films back in the day among others reasons. Fast forward to today, and now we know that they do. Whether a new Sentai show will premiere next year or several years from now, nothing is impossible and the future brings many possibilities including new Sentai acquisitions that would be a perfect fit for the block. So on behalf of the Toonami Faithful, thanks for the memories Sentai, and we hope to see you back soon.

And Finally

Tune in next week as One Punch Man showcases its season finale, among other great moments. Until next week, enjoy New York Comic Con if you’re going, and stay gold as always.
