“Oh come on, Vegeta. Don’t overreact. If you had died back there [without that pacifier], we’d never be able to fight each other like that again. Besides, we still haven’t settled who would win.“
– Goku, Dragon Ball Super (Ep. 46)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for January 13-14, 2018. A rather good night for anime as Goku tries to save Vegeta from the Commeson, while Asta and Yuno learn their results of the exams, and we reach the penultimate episode of Lupin part IV as Leonardo di Vinci unleashes his “World Harmony” plan on the world.
On Twitter, Toonami would trend as with every show during their respective East Coast airings, as well as Black Clover, JoJo’s, and Hunter x Hunter as well during their respective West Coast airings. Dragon Ball Super also produced a character trend in Vegeta with the finale of Goku’s battle with the cloned blob Vegeta, and…we’ll I think this week’s header pretty much sums up why he probably trended. On Tumblr, Toonami would also trend as with Dragon Ball Super, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Hunter x Hunter.
Finally, Dragon Ball Super continues to impress in social media as the show for the 29th time makes it to Nielsen Social’s top 5 most talked about shows on the day, making it to the #5 spot with an estimated 41k total interactions between users on Twitter and Facebook. This is the 43rd time a Toonami show has made onto this list since we started recording this feat.
This week’s feature was a new promo for the upcoming encore run of Space Dandy, set to begin airing on January 27. As previously mentioned, a new show was originally intended to replace Lupin on that date, but legal matters involving Toonami and the distributor of the new show forced a postponement until a later date, so Dandy was called back in the interim.
Toonami also created an arc promo for Dragon Ball Super, as next week we will begin the Future Trunks Saga. FUNimation has released some of the cast members that will be introduced or returning for this new saga. Some of the names include:
- Future Trunks – Eric Vale
- Mai – Colleen Clinkenbeard
- Black Goku – Sean Schemmel
- Zamasu – David Gray
- Gowasu – Garrett Schenck
Finally, as Lupin the Third reaches its thrilling season finale next week, Lupin fans will soon be looking forward to the next chapter, as it has been announced that Part 5 of the Lupin franchise is set to be released in Japan in April. For this upcoming season, Lupin and the crew will be traveling to France, the home of his grandfather Arsène Lupin. No word on whether Discotek’s plans for a dub or if Toonami will be renewing the series in due time, but we’ll keep you posted.
Until next week, have a Happy (late) Martin Luther King Jr. day, and stay gold.
