Following the success of the final season of Samurai Jack in 2017, fans have been wondering what would be next for Genndy Tartakovsky and Adult Swim’s venture into adult oriented action cartoons. Last year, it was revealed that Cartoon Network had filed a trademark for “Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal.” This morning, Adult Swim has revealed a teaser announcement trailer for this new original series.

Not much has been revealed for Primal officially other than Adult Swim will be premiering the series this fall. According to Deadline, “Primal features a caveman at the dawn of evolution. A dinosaur on the brink of extinction. Bonded by tragedy, this unlikely friendship becomes the only hope of survival in a violent, primordial world.”

However, unlike Samurai Jack, Adult Swim has opted this time around to air Primal on Adult Swim proper rather than Toonami, as confirmed by Jason DeMarco.

While some fans have speculated that this is due to Toonami transitioning from an action cartoon block to an anime block with titles like Pop Team Epic and The Promised Neverland joining in the last year, we have not heard an official stance on the move and whether western action cartoons will still be in Toonami’s future.

Update 5/14 @ 2:00 pm EDT: We have reached out to Jason DeMarco, and in regards to Primal’s placement in the schedule, he said that “Primal will air where the network thinks it has the best chance of success. It doesn’t mean anything for Toonami.”
