For a few years now, I’ve heard a lot about Rooster Fighter and how funny the manga is. Hearing this made me want to be one of the first people to check this show out when the time came. After watching Episode 1, I can confidently say it is not only filled with high-octane action, but hilarious moments that you may not want the children to be around for. It’s definitely an Adult Swim show. Let’s get into this spoiler free review of Rooster Fighter Episode 1 – A Rooster Among Cranes..

This first episode introduces us to the main character, named Keiji. Keiji on the outside is very stoic. He doesn’t show any emotion to those around him, even the ones he may care about. That said, Keiji will always be there to defend the innocent and deal out justice to the bad guy. In a sense, Keiji is a demon hunter who defends the weak against demons that seemingly appear out of nowhere by using his speed and “super power” to stop them. Also, while we hear Keiji’s internal monologue throughout the episode, to humans, he sounds like a normal rooster when he talks. It can be funny at times to see humans try to figure out what Keiji is trying to say. This episode begins to show us who Keiji is and the journey he is on, wandering from city to city, and what motivates him to be the hero he is.

Let’s talk about the presentation of this episode. Visually, the show so far is pleasing to the eyes with just the right mix of 2D and 3D animation. The 3D animation is not overwhelming, which can happen in some of the current anime out there. The English Dub cast so far is great. Patrick Seitz does a good job voicing Keiji, and I think they chose correctly for this character. The intro, performed by DARUMA Rollin’, is not only good, but sets the tone for what this show is and will be: A high-octane anime that doesn’t take itself seriously. You can see a preview of the intro for Rooster Fighter below. All in all, I think the show looks and sounds great.

After watching episode 1, I can definitely say you will not only laugh, but enjoy the action this series will serve up. All in all, Rooster Fighter looks to be a wild ride and if this keeps up, I think this show may finally be the hit Toonami and Adult Swim deserved. I’m giving this episode an 8 out of 10. I look forward to discussing this episode with all of you once it broadcasts on Saturday, March 14 at midnight.
