“I’m going to give you a lesson on Super Saiyans. I want to make sure you both understand. […] First off, there’s my normal state that I’m in right now. Then there’s my Saiyan form. Next up, this is what it looks like when i push myself beyond the level of Super Saiyan for even greater power. See, to make this easy, let’s call this Super Saiyan 2. But there’s more […] And this is my favorite level. I call it Super Saiyan 3. Sorry to keep you waiting, it takes awhile to get to. I’m not used to making this transformation yet.”
– Goku, Dragon Ball Z Kai (Ep. 133)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for September 23-24, 2017. The fall season is beginning as Frost shows that he is not as noble as perceived to be, while Goku attempts to stop Babidi and Buu from their rampage and give Goten and Trunks some extra time, and Lupin is on the run from a berserk Nix, among other moments.
On twitter, Toonami as well as every show would successfully trend in the US during their respective East Coast airings, ending a trending drought for several shows. Meanwhile on Tumblr, Toonami would trend as with Dragon Ball Super, JoJo’s, and Hunter x Hunter.
Finally, Dragon Ball Super would continue its streak as it continues being on Nielsen Social’s top 5 most talked about shows on the day on Twitter and Facebook, making it to the #5 spot this week. This is also the 35th time a Toonami show has reached this list since we started recording this feat and the 21th time for the franchise so far.
This week, Toonami released the new promo for the new season of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans, set to premiere on October 7th at 12:30am Eastern, only 7 days away as of this writing.
Toonami also showcased the premiere of the new music video “Solar Blade” by Igloo Ghost. You can check it out below.
A little programming news coming within the next few weeks. As the encore run of Attack on Titan season 2 begins winding down, Toonami will be continuing the encore run of Ghost In the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, with the 2nd GIG beginning on October 21 at 3:30am Eastern. While the live action movie released earlier this year didn’t do as well as we all hoped, the franchise overall still remains strong and with more GITS in the works, they’ll be alot to look forward to ahead.
Interesting news for One Punch Man as production on season 2 continues. While many expected for director Shingo Natsume and Madhouse would be animating the new season, it has been announced that the task instead will be passed on to J.C. Staff with a new director by Chikara Sakurai. Sakurai has previously been involved with the Naruto franchise, while J.C. Staff hasn’t had a work showcased in the better cartoon show as of yet, but fans might know them for their work on Shakugan no Shana, the Index franchise, and Food Wars, among others. What this animator change means for the series in the months and years ahead is yet to be known, but besides the animation, the core staff will mostly stay intact, so we’ll see what happens.
And as the wait for season 3 continues, Skydance Television and Kadowawa have partnered up to make a live action adaption of Sword Art Online, with Patrick Massett and John Zinman of Friday Night Lights fame producing the new show. Hollywood has been taking notice of anime’s resurgence as of late with titles like Your Name, Cowboy Bebop, and Akira among others being looked at for an live action remake as well. Whether it’s for better or for worse, and whether Hollywood can buck its poor track record of anime, cartoon, and video game adaptations, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Tune in tonight for the finale of Tokyo Ghoul Root A, among other great moments. Until then, stay gold as always.
