“For now, all I have to do is follow my dream. My dream, except it’s not just mine. Huh…my dream, except it’s not just mine. Not yet…not yet. I’m nowhere near as powerful as I need to be. Yuno’s got the lead for now. The captain was totally right. I’m just going to follow my own dream. Yeah, that’s it. My arms are going to heal. I’ll get stronger than I’ve ever been and then I’m going to become the Wizard King!”

–          Asta, Black Clover (Ep. 50)

The Toonami Trending Rundown for December 15-16, 2018. It’s the final regular scheduled Toonami of 2018 as Black Clover concludes the Seabed Temple Arc, while Joe has his first bout against Yuri, and Goku gets his team together for the Tournament of Power, among other great moments.

On Twitter, Toonami would trend in the US alongside Megalo Box, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Hunter x Hunter, and Black Clover. On Tumblr. Toonami would trend alongside My Hero Academia, Naruto, Mob Psycho 100 and JoJo’s.

Last Thursday, Jason DeMarco announced that Toonami will be ending the “all night experiment” (at least for now) and contract again to air from 11pm-5am. Every show save for Super will be moving its timeslot for this shortening, so the full schedule can be seen below and make sure to set your DVRs if needed.

Also last Thursday, Funimation and Toei hosted a premiere event for the Dragon Ball Super: Broly film in Hollywood, and I headed back to LA to cover the event for the Toonami Faithful. I also got the opportunity to talk with some of the DBS’s voice actors regarding this film, their characters, and the past, present, and future of this franchise. We’ll have those articles posted as soon as they’re finished, but all I can say is I think fans will be very pleased with what they’re going to see with this new saga and re-envisioning of Broly upon its release on January 16. Click here to check out the moments page from the night, and if you’re interested in seeing the film next month, check out dragonballsuperofficial.com for show times near your area.

For those who also like to read the manga of their favorite Toonami shows, Viz and Shonen Jump will begin simultaneously releasing the newest chapters of all its current series on their website alongside its Japanese counterpart for free. And for those wanting to start from the beginning or want to catch up, Viz has created the “SHONEN JUMP digital vault membership” which for the low price of $1.99 per month, allows you to view every translated issue of Shonen Jump released to date.

On Wednesday morning, Studio Bones had announced that the fourth season of My Hero Academia is scheduled to premiere in Japanese shores in October 2019. A new key visual was also released, which you can see below. While it is expected that Funimation will simuldub the series and put it on their Funimation Now service, no word yet on Toonami’s plans are regarding season 4 and beyond (only the first 3 seasons are confirmed to air as of now). We’ll keep you posted ahead.

For the last two weeks of the year, Toonami will once again opt for encore marathons, with the 14 most recent episodes of Dragon Ball Super for the Christmas Marathon on December 22 and the first 11 episodes of Boruto for the New Year’s Marathon on December 29 (with the regular scheduled episodes of Pop Team Epic, Gundam IBO, and Samurai Jack to fill up the night).

Since I don’t do separate trending rundowns for marathon nights nowadays (they’re bundled with the next regular scheduled Toonami), this means that this will be the last Toonami Trending Rundown for 2018. It’s been a pretty fun year for Toonami with the additions of some great franchises to the lineup including My Hero Academia, Pop Team Epic, Mob Psycho 100, and Megalo Box; to go along with the sequels to popular Toonami franchises including FLCL Progressive and Alternative, Attack on Titan season 3, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, and Boruto, alongside the arsenal of long running and rerunning series. And it’s been a personal milestone for me as well as I got to cover Anime Expo for the very first time in addition to Comic Con, as well as the SAO 3 and DBS: Broly premieres.

What will 2019 bring? Jason DeMarco has promised the next Total Immersion Event, set to be released around mid-2019 is promised to be bigger and better than ever, and as always we’ll be seeing some new acquisitions and original productions in the works (Including Blade Runner) to be revealed ahead. And we’ll keep an eye on Attack on Titan season 3 part 2, My Hero Academia seasons 3-4, JoJo’s Part 5, Mob Psycho 100 season 2, SAO Alicization, among others for their prospects of potentially continuing on Toonami ahead. As Spike Spiegel would say, whatever happens, happens.

Finally, I’d like to say Thank You to all of our readers as well as everyone at ToonamiFaithful.com/Toonami News, Toonami Squad, @myanimewaifu, as well as anyone who has contributed to the trending rundown in any way shape or form. I’ve been doing this for 6 years, and contributing and cataloging the social media buzz of Toonami’s revival. It’s been a fun ride so far, and while critics have said that Toonami’s death is nigh due to streaming and piracy, as Joe would say, we’re not dead yet, and if you ask me, I don’t see that occurring anytime soon.

Until next year, we wish you a Merry Christmas, a Happy Kwanzaa and a Happy New Year, and stay gold.
