Aniplex announced today at its Industry Panel that Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online was getting an English Dub. Naturally we thought that Toonami would pick up the English Dub, but that was not the case. Netflix and Hulu will both be playing the English Dub staring sometime next year. So what happened? Did Netflix and Hulu out bid Toonami for this? Did Toonami pass on the show? We don’t know, but an interesting theory was presented by the ADR Director of Sword Art Online Alex Von David on Twitter. Here is what he said:
With approx. 307 mass-shootings in the US this year (67 at schools), a show with heavy, consequence-free gun-violence might not be something toonami wants to air. Just saying…
