DC Comics has been pumping out movies each year. Batman: Bad Blood is the first film released this year and we decided to review this movie. How does this new film stacks up in this Batman trilogy? Is it worth watching, let alone buying on Blu-Ray/DVD? Let’s take look and find out.

Batman: Bad Blood revolves around Batman (voiced by Jason O’Mara) who has gone missing after facing a gang of criminals. Alfred contacts Dick Grayson (voiced by Sean Maher) because Batman/Bruce Wayne has been missing for 3 weeks. At this point, Alfred fears the worst has happened and feels Dick should take up the mantel of the Batman until Bruce is found. Reluctantly, he agrees and sets out to stop Gotham City’s criminal trash as Batman. Damien (voiced by Stuart Allen) also returns hearing his father has gone missing and both Damien and Dick set out to find out what happened to Batman.

After defeating some criminals, Batwoman (voiced by Yvonne Strahovski) appears again and talks to Damien and Dick about what happened. In the beginning of the film, Batwoman takes on a group of criminals and naturally Batman joins in to help. During the battle, Batman has to save Batwoman and after throwing her to safety, the building they were in explodes. It becomes apparent soon after that the criminals they have been facing all along are working for a familiar enemy and that Batman is a key component to their plan. Who is that enemy and why is this person using Batman? You will find that out when you see the movie.

So is this movie worth the buy and watch? Yes it certainly is. Let’s talk first what the problems are with this film. Please note: The following are spoilers so please skip this section if you don’t want anything spoiled. The Heretic, the seemingly head bad guy of the film, has a limited role and after watching the film you get the sense that his role was wasted (You will see what we are talking about when you watch it). Why waste this character? Well that takes a point off of the score certainly. Another point off the film comes when the main bad guy is revealed. Guess who’s back? Yup, its none other than Talia Al Ghul. Now you might say why is it bad she’s back? It isn’t bad. The problem here is it seems she has no feelings toward Damien anymore and wants nothing to do with him. I mean don’t get me wrong, if it was set up this way from the start in Son of Batman, I would have no problem with this. I mean she sent him to learn from his father and he did, so isn’t that her fault? Well not only is it a point off for that stupidity, but also being a bad parent in my view.

As for the positives, Batman: Bad Blood give you a lot of them. The action and story line are very good and the visual presentation on the Bluray is crisp and clear crisp. One other good thing about the film is the new heros. Batwoman, for example, gets a lot of development. We learn a lot about Katherine Kane’s (the real name of Batwoman) past and why she decided to become Batwoman in the first place. The other character, Batwing, gets very little development outside of being Lucius Fox’s son Luke Fox. It doesn’t take away from the movie and you get the impression we will find out more about him in a later movie. Another good thing about the movie is while all the new characters in this film could easily have overlapped they don’t. Lastly, as the other movies in the trilogy it sets up the potential for a new trilogy of movies.

All in all, it is a good movie and even with its negatives is one you should see. That’s why Geek E Inc. Productions gives Batman: Bad Blood an 8 out of 10.
