The Toonami Trending Rundown for November 16-17, 2013. Tough night for trending with George St-Pierre’s win over Johny Hendricks and Lady Gaga hosting SNL among other events, but things went pretty well regardless as every show except for IGPX trended in the US and every show except for Star Wars TCW, Ghost In The Shell, and IGPX trended worldwide. We also got some character trends with Rock Lee, once again, as he fought the good fight, but lost a close one to Garra; as well as Black Star as he, for lack of a better term, struggles in his quest in “surpassing God”.
It should be interesting how things go next week, with Pacquiao fighting against Rios, but knowing the Toonami faithful, things should go well regardless. Here’s an interesting trivial fact: since Toonami has been revived, Pacquiao has actually been winless with a controversial decision against Bradley and a TKO by Marquez. Unfortunately, Toonami had rough trending nights after both events since both losses were such shockers. So personally as a Pacquiao fan myself, let’s hope the third time’s the charm. Toonami did pretty well the last time Mayweather fought, but we’ll see.
If you haven’t heard the news, we now know the movies that will air this December. Akira will kick things off on December 7th, followed by Summer Wars on December 14, Full Metal Alchemist: The Conqueror of Shamballa on December 21, and Trigun: Badlands Rumble will wrap the year off on December 28th. No other info yet on what time these movies will start and what’s taking the month off to make way.
One show we know for sure that will be preempted is Naruto which has two more weeks left in the schedule and will be replaced by Shippuden in January. So, it’s probably a good time to binge watch or read the show, if you aren’t caught up already. Just a reminder for those that wish to do the “Naruto catch-up challenge”, you’ll need to watch up to episode 153 (if you want to skip the filler arc) or 220 (if you don’t). Or if you’re doing it via the manga, you’ll need to read up to Chapter 245.
Also on a scheduling note, for those that haven’t heard, regular Cartoon Network hours will be extended to 9pm Eastern for the rest of the year, meaning that Adult Swim will start at 10pm. This doesn’t affect Toonami much, although an hour of Family Guy will air directly before Toonami, with an hour of King of the Hill before that.
In Soul Eater news: the side story Soul Eater Not! is going to get an anime adaptation. No other specifics have been said at the moment.
Other than that, see you again next week, congrats to Jimmie Johnson for winning his 6th championship, congrats to those that successfully got their PS4’s, and good luck to all those that are camping out for the Xbox One or hoping that their preorder will be fulfilled in time. And speaking of the Xbox One, Microsoft will be showing off some of the new digs next week during commercial breaks (similar to the Oblivion and Pacific Rim promos), so for those that are still on the fence, might want to check those out. And for those that are going to watch the Pacquiao vs Rios fight, make sure you record so you don’t miss a beat.
