“The process is discussed in the written legends of Planet Namek. Five Saiyans with righteous hearts will join hands and instill their inner light into another. With his friends’ energy flowing through him, this Saiyan shall then take the form of a Super Saiyan God.“
– Shenron, Dragon Ball Super (Ep. 09)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for March 4-5, 2017. We’re just a week away from the return of Samurai Jack and Toonami’s going strong in anticipation, as the Saiyans along with Gohan and Videl’s unborn child help Goku gain the power of reaching Super Saiyan God levels, while Goten and Trunks battle it out for the junior championship, and Banagher furious at Full Frontal for killing Daguza, among other notable moments.
On Twitter, Toonami and every show would trend in the US during their respective East Coast airings, as well as worldwide. During the primetime presentation, both Dragon Ball Super and Samurai Jack would also trend in the US as well. And on tumblr, Toonami also successfully trended. On the other hand, there were no character or in-show content trends to report this week.
And finally, Dragon Ball Super would make it to Nielsen Social’s top 5 most talked about shows on the day on Twitter and Facebook for the 8th time in the show’s 9 weeks of airing so far, making it to the #3 spot. This is also the 15th time a Toonami show has made it onto this list since we started recording this feat. Overall, it’s always great to see Toonami and its shows continue to make buzz and with Samurai Jack incoming, here’s hoping this continues.

This week, Toonami showcased a new trailer for the upcoming mini-series Sand Whale and Me by Mamoru Oshii and Production IG, which you can check out below.. The first of five parts is set to air on March 18th at midnight, to coincide with Toonami’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
It’s been a pretty notable season for anime movies on the silver screen, especially in regards to shows Toonami has aired, and this Thursday March 9th, the newest installment to the Sword Art Online franchise, Ordinal Scale, will be having its limited theatrical release. Showtimes are limited, so if you’re interested click here to see screenings near your area and get tickets if you haven’t already, and help give your support to the anime industry on the big screen. Of course, with a dub in the works, and hints of a continuation in development, we’ll likely be hearing more regarding what’s next for Kirito and Asuna in the months and years ahead. As with all Toonami shows, we’ll keep you posted.
Tune in next week as Toonami will be expanding to the 11pm timeslot as Samurai Jack begins showcasing its long awaited fifth season. It’s been 13 years since Samurai Jack last premiered an episode on Cartoon Network and some thought this day would never come. Hard to believe that the long awaited conclusion to Jack’s story begins less than a week away, and we hope you’re ready for this momentous occasion for the better cartoon show.
Until next week, have a Happy International Women’s Day as we say thanks to all the girls and women that continue to inspire us all, and on behalf of all OG Toonami and Sailor Moon fans, we also like to wish a Happy 25th anniversary to the Sailor Moon anime series. Thanks for the memories and here’s to many more to come.
