“No one said this [goodbye] was for good. Why don’t you stay put and wait for us for awhile, Laboon? Our plan is to sail our ship straight across this sea, and straight back to where we started. Right back to you, Laboon. Once we’ve sailed through the Grand Line, our ship will have made a circle around the entire world. And that means we’ll be crossing the Red Line again just like we are now. We’ll come back to this cape as fast as we can. Just wait and see. It’ll only be maybe 2-3 years tops. If you can wait that long, you’ll see all of us again.”
– Yorki, One Piece (Ep. 379)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for February 11-12, 2017. Business as usual for the better cartoon show as Gon and Killua head for the Apple Big, York New City, Goku teaching Goten and Videl how to fly, and Beerus and Buu fighting over pudding, among other moments. On Twitter, Toonami and every show would successfully trend in the US during their respective East Coast airings, and even briefly trending worldwide. Both Dragon Ball Super and Samurai Jack would also trend during primetime as well. On tumblr, both Toonami and Dragon Ball Super also trended.
JoJo’s buzz for the first time produced a character trend with Lisa Lisa, as she starts putting JoJo and Caesar in some pretty intense Hamon training so they can fight the Pillar Men before the rings embedded within JoJo kills him in 30 days, with their first task having to climb up the Hell Climb Pillar. One Piece meanwhile, for the fifth week in a row, produced charcter trends in Brook as well as Laboon, as Brook recalls his past days with the Rumbar Pirates 50 years before and how Laboon started following and befriending them. Eventually when going to the Grand Line, the Rumbar Pirates were forced to part ways with Laboon due to the dangers there, hoping that they would be able to return to Laboon in a few years. Unfortunately the reunion was not to be, as 3 years later, Brook would turn out to be the only surviving member of the crew.
And for the sixth time in 5 weeks, Dragon Ball Super made it to Nielsen Social’s top 5 most talked about shows on Twitter and Facebook, rounding out at the #5 spot. This is the 12th time a Toonami show has made it onto the list and the second time a single show has done so in 3 consecutive weeks.
This week’s feature was a video game review of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. It received a 8.5 out of 10 score.
On Monday, Paramount released a new trailer for the upcoming Ghost In The Shell live action film, which you can see below.
Aniplex also released a new trailer for the upcoming Ordinal Scale film as the limited theatrical release is less than a month away on March 9th. In addition, it was reported by IGN that the limited screening will feature a message by Kirito and Asuna’s Japanese voice actors reflecting on the Sword Art Online franchise.
And finally, the countdown to Samurai Jack’s return continues as the long awaited premiere of Season 5 is only just 4 weeks away. In the meantime, check out Adult Swim’s Samurai Jack page for a behind the scenes look on the music of Jack with Creator Genndy Tartakovsky and Composer Tyler Bates. Of course, as a reminder, Toonami will be expanding to 11pm Eastern/Pacific to accommodate Samurai Jack on March 11, so be prepared to have your Toonami nights started 30 minutes earlier in the foreseeable future.
Until next week, have a Happy Valentines Day and see you again next week for another round of the better cartoon show. Later.
