The film is set between the 517th and 518th installments of [URL=”http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=12″]Akira Toriyama[/URL]’s original manga. Specifically, it is [URL=”http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2012-12-03/2013-dragon-ball-z/battle-of-gods-film-story-outlined”]set[/URL] during the “lost decade” of story time after the end of the battle with Majin Buu. It features new characters Birusu — the God of Destruction played by [URL=”http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=1009″]Kouichi Yamadera[/URL] — and his attendant Wisu ([URL=”http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=21028″]Masakazu Morita[/URL]). The film earned 688,090,207 yen (US$7,044,323) on 312 screens for a per-screen average of 2,205,416 yen (US$22,577), the highest average of the weekend.

Akira Toriyama along with Toei Animation, Fox International Productions Japan, Shueisha, Fuji TV, Bandai, and Namco Bandai Games are all involved. Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods was released in Japanese theaters on March 30, 2013. There is no word on a North American or European release date at this time, however, Toei has [URL=”http://www.saiyanisland.com/2012/08/dragon-ball-z-2013-movie-full-teaser-trailer-english-website/”]acknowledged a huge international response[/URL] and has received [URL=”http://www.saiyanisland.com/2012/09/dragon-ball-z-2013-movie-receiving-government-funding/”]government funding[/URL] for a potential release.
