“This is way more entertaining than Hollywood’s gonna ever be.”
– Revy, Black Lagoon (Episode 01)
“thanks everyone for all the toonami/black lagoon/revy support last night! i can’t work if you don’t watch, and i so appreciate that. :)”
– Marÿke Hendrikse, the voice of Revi.
The Toonami Trending Rundown for March 22-23, 2014. We kick off Black Lagoon’s run as we had ourselves a great night for trending despite the buzz of March Madness as every show with the exception of Ghost In The Shell and Star Wars TCW trended in the US. In addition, Black Lagoon and Samurai Jack also trended worldwide.
We also got some special trends from Space Dandy, One Piece, and Black Lagoon with Who’s The Doctor (When the Chameleonian, for lack of a better term, went all-Doctor Who on Dr. Gel), Franky (as he sympathizes to Usopp’s issues), and perhaps the biggest trend of the night, Revy (as she and the Black Lagoon crew kidnap and “recruit” Rock and is forced to lead the charge when Rock’s former employer starts a torch-and-burn op. to destroy what they stole from them). What a way to kick the show off with a bang.
Tune in next week as Space Dandy showcases it’s season finale. This news might be a bit surprising as we haven’t and still don’t really know how long Space Dandy is planned to run, but no need to fret as Season 2 has been announced to be premiering this July. In the interim, Dandy will be rerunning after next week according to the Adult Swim schedule, so for those that missed out or want to rewatch it again, here’s your chance. And for those that aren’t into reruns, no need to fret as the other shows on the first half of the block are just heating up, including the climax of Bleach’s current story arc, which should at least keep your mind off it. Whatever happens, all I can really say is that showcasing resiliency with the ratings and social media buzz is a great way to convince CN to expand Toonami even more in the future, and I’m sure those that want to see more premieres like Attack on Titan in the future can agree with that.
Till next week, enjoy March Madness and stay gold.
