Today, Toonami announced on their official Facebook page that Toonami Rewind will have it’s final broadcast at the end of the year. They also thanked everyone who tuned in and reassured their viewers that Saturday night Toonami isn’t going anywhere. You can read their post below:

There was no reason given for why Toonami Rewind is retiring but Adult Swim’s January schedule shows Checkered Past has shrunk to a single hour block on weeknights at 5 p.m. while King of the Hill has shifted to the 6 p.m. hour to make way for Family Guy later in the night. Checkered Past is reclaiming the 5 p.m. hour on Fridays which it forfeited to Toonami Rewind back in May of this year.

Toonami Rewind brought anime back to Friday afternoons for the first time in roughly fifteen years and featured Dragon Ball Z Kai, Naruto and the first uncensored airings of Sailor Moon to ever broadcast on the network. The block continued to air all three shows until the end of November, after which it switched to weekly marathons of Dragon Ball Z Kai for the month of December. It seems that will be the blocks swan song after six months on the air.

There is no word as to whether or not Naruto and/or Sailor Moon will move to the main Toonami block on Saturday alongside DBZ Kai next year. Toonami Rewind was able to finish airing the entire first season of Sailor Moon but the other two have an undetermined number of episodes left. Adult Swim’s website/app has continued to upload weekly Naruto episodes beyond what aired on Toonami Rewind, implying they have more than they have aired and DBZ Kai is still on Saturday Toonami where it recently expanded to two airings a week.
